Basics in Employment Law

This course is designed to teach non-HR professionals the fundamentals of federal and state employment laws that they are impacted by and must be aware of when conducting day-day business.听 This will be taught on a fairly basic level for supervisors and managers to be able to understand these laws so that they are conscious of these laws when making decisions dealing with current and new employees.

The course covers the following:

Discrimination

NOUN the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of ethnicity, age, sex, or disability.

ADA

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities and guarantees that they have equal opportunity to participate in mainstream American life.

ADEA

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older.

FLSA

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is a U.S. law that is intended to protect workers against certain unfair pay practices. As such, the FLSA sets out various labor regulations regarding interstate commerce employment, including minimum wages, requirements for overtime pay, and limitations on child labor.

FMLA

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a labor law requiring employers of a certain size to provide employees with unpaid time off for serious family health issues or situations.

USERRA

Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) is a federal statute that protects servicemembers’ and veterans’ civilian employment rights.
